Customix is currently available in two versions: the Legacy version, built for personalization and print-on-demand production, and the New version, built for storefront personalization without print-file generation.

Both versions offer largely the same core personalization tools, including live product previews and conditional logic. Therefore, choosing between them is less about which version has more features and more about one practical question:

Does your workflow require Customix to generate production-ready print files?

Here is a detailed breakdown to help you choose the right version for your store.

The Difference That Matters: Print Files

The biggest difference between the two versions is how they support your fulfillment workflow.

The Legacy version generates a production-ready print file for each personalized order. It includes a dedicated print-file setup stage and integrations with print-on-demand fulfillment providers, allowing customized files to be sent directly to production.

The New version focuses on creating the live preview displayed to customers on your storefront. It saves their personalization details with the order but does not generate a production-ready print file or require fulfillment integrations to be configured.

By removing the print-file layer, the New version provides a noticeably simpler and faster setup process. You create the product options, configure how they appear in the live preview, and publish them directly to your product page.

Personalization Features: Largely the Same

Both versions provide largely the same core personalization experience, so merchants can still create detailed and interactive product options regardless of which version they choose.

Available customization types include:

  • Text: Text, Curved Text, Warp Text, Shaped Text and Spiral Text
  • Choice lists: Image Swatch, Additional Swatch, Checkbox, Font Swatch and Color Swatch
  • Images: Upload Photo, Upload Vector and Static Image
  • Other elements: Date Picker, Star Map, Moon Phase, Crossword, Word Search, Clock, Street Map, QR Code and Spotify

Both versions also support live product previews and conditional logic. Some advanced option types and features are only available on higher plans, but they are supported across both versions.

The main difference is what happens after the customer completes their personalization. Legacy can turn the final design into a production-ready file, while New saves the customer’s selections and preview information without generating that file.

Pricing Designed for Different Needs

The pricing structures reflect the primary difference between the two versions.

Because Legacy generates print files for personalized orders, its pricing is based on order volume:

  • Beginner: Free, with 10 personalized orders included per month and up to 10 products
  • Starter: $14.99/month, with 100 personalized orders included per month and up to 100 products. After the included allowance, a $0.70 fee applies to each additional personalized item.
  • Pro: $29.99/month, with 350 personalized orders included per month, Product Bundle offers and a $0.50 fee for each additional personalized item.
  • Elite: $199.99/month, with 1,000 personalized orders included per month and a $0.30 fee for each additional personalized item.

The New version is priced according to the number of products and uses a flat monthly fee without per-order transaction charges:

  • Free: Up to 5 products, multiple option types, live preview, conditional logic, free templates and live chat support
  • Starter: $9.99/month, with up to 30 products, watermark removal, image upload and advanced templates
  • Pro: $17.99/month, with unlimited products, advanced option types, internal AI effects, advanced live preview and Product Bundle offers
  • Elite: $29.99/month, with priority support, multi-store and API access, and additional team members and seats

For stores that do not need Customix-generated print files, the New version offers a more affordable and predictable pricing structure. Since there are no per-order fees, the monthly subscription cost remains the same regardless of how many personalized orders the store receives.

Which Version Should You Choose?

Choose the Legacy version if you run a print-on-demand or made-to-order business that requires a production-ready file for every personalized order. It is also the right choice if you want to send orders and their corresponding print files directly to an integrated POD fulfillment provider.

Choose the New version if you want customers to personalize products and view the results on your storefront, but you do not need Customix to generate a production-ready file for fulfillment. It is particularly suitable if you handle production yourself, use another method to prepare production files, or only need the customer’s selections saved with the order.

The New version is also the better choice if you prefer a faster setup process and predictable monthly pricing without additional per-order fees.

The Short Version

Both Customix versions provide largely the same core personalization tools, including live preview and conditional logic.

If your fulfillment workflow requires Customix-generated print files, choose the Legacy version.

If you only need storefront personalization, live preview and saved customer selections, choose the New version for a simpler setup and flat monthly pricing.
